OUR STORY
revelo was conceived on a sleepless night. Our founder, Joel, was wondering how he could still show his love of cycling while his tan lines faded, his form left and his family grew. Priorities were changing. But the passion was still there. Joel took a tire destroyed in a California criterium and a buckle from a disused belt and the first revelo belt was made. This belt, and a few others after it, grabbed the attention of Whole Foods Market, where Joel was working, and the brand was born.
revelo didn’t start out with the ambition to recycle, rather, it began simply from a love of cycling; it just happened that the medium we used to express that passion was recycled materials. Now in our twelfth year, we recycle more than 1,000 pounds of tires, tubes and vinyl every year. We use a great deal of everything that comes our way, but what we can’t use is in turn recycled at our local hard-to-recycle center, EcoCycle, in Boulder.
Every one of our products is designed with sustainability and ease of replication in mind. What’s the use of designing a great bag if it can’t made in the same, consistent way over and over, with like materials? Some of the materials we use have to be new; things like the hardware that holds our belts together and zippers for seat and handle bar bags have to be sourced as new to guarantee that consistent replication, but if a recycled material can be used, it is.
